Vignir Snaer Vigfusson singer/guitar

Vignir Snaer Vigfússon is one of Iceland’s most successful musicians. Music is simply in his blood. He is a master guitarist, songwriter and singer who has written some of Iceland’s biggest pop hits over the last decade.

He started playing the guitar at the age of nine and can play almost any instrument he gets his hands on and collects instruments, especially guitars. He has been especially noticed as a singer for his husky, charming voice and his huge range, being able to sing songs ranging from Johnny Cash all the way to Stevie Wonder. He is also a renowned music producer and has recorded and produced numerous hits for Iceland’s most loved performers such as his dear friend and fellow bandmember Sjonni Brink. Vignir has worked as the musical director in popular TV shows such as the Icelandic Idol and X-factor and played in hit musicals such as Hair, Grease and Footloose.

This is Vignir’s fifth time for Iceland in the ESC. He was the guitarist on stage in Lithuania in “Open your heart” performed by his then bandmate Birgitta. He was the assistant producer of Jónsi’s song “Heaven” in the year 2004, co-wrote the song “If I had your love” performed by our lovely Selma in the Ukraine in 2005 and in 2007 Vignir produced “Valentine Lost” which Eirikur Hauksson performed in Finland. He has also played guitars, arranged and sung backing vocals for other Icelandic ESC entries through the years. Vignir produced and recorded “Coming home” and is looking forward to letting his voice be heard in the ESC as a lead singer for the first time. Vignir Snaer is married, has three beautiful boys and is a much better basketball player than Sjonni’s Friends bandmember Hreimur.
